What we do

AMECA support the delivery of sustainable healthcare initiatives in African countries.
We work in partnership with professionals, local organisations and local communities to ensure that these initiatives are focussed, relevant and sustainable over the long term.

Where we work

In Africa, we are currently working in Malawi.

In the UK, AMECA support medical and nursing students through the donation of final year Bursary Awards for elective placements in African countries.

Our Projects:

The AMECA Wing

In May 2011, AMECA completed its first build project in Malawi.  Our objective was to build a sustainable healthcare and medical training facility.

The AMECA Wing is a two-storey building comprising a private day surgical ward, training facilities and a café. The revenue from these facilities will be used to fund free orthopaedic treatment at the Beit CURE International Hospital for the children of Malawi and also contribute to the Malawian National Club Foot Programme.

The AMECA Medical & Nursing Elective Bursary Awards

In 2008, we created the AMECA Medical Elective Bursary Awards; this initiative has now expanded to embrace Nursing students. We hope to provide further expansion to other medical disciplines within the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences at the University of Nottingham.

In 2011, AMECA donated 15 awards of £1,000 each to medical and nursing students at Nottingham University; the University was able to apply for match funding from the Government to help even more students fund their electives abroad in the following academic year.
