To date over £8,000 of income has been generated by elective day surgical procedures at The AMECA Wing; funds wil be used towards the provision of free orthopaedic care for children at CURE's hospital.

We were pleased to hear that the cafe is now open in the wing, generating even more income. We received some photos from Malawi....

We are thrilled to let you know that Tim Butcher has agreed to become the first patron of AMECA.

Tim is a former journalist with the Daily Telegraph from 1990 to 2009 as chief war correspondent, Africa bureau chief and Middle East correspondent. AMECA were delighted to host Tim Butcher as their guest speaker at a fundraising event on 10th October.

In September, a fact finding trip was taken to Malawi and Tanzania.

In Malawi it was great to see our new hospital wing being used and patients happy with the facilities. More to the point, this elective day surgical wing is generating income for free paediatric treatment, which was, of course, the whole point!!

The Really Wild Travel Company has developed a new challenge for medics, nurses and physiotherapy students. This challenge offers students a really exciting opportunity in Tanzania involving both clinical experience in an African hospital and also a chance to make a real contribution to a local community in need, by helping to renovate a rural clinic. Students will be fundraising in support of The AMECA Trust, their nominated charity.

We have had an update from Malawi about the funds being generated by the AMECA Wing built by the AMECA Trust at The Beit CURE International Hospital.

We were very excited to hear that in in the first 6 weeks since opening in May 2011, private patient treatment in The AMECA Wing generated approximately MK 284,250 (about £1,137) of revenue to the hospital....
